President Emomali Rahmon has signed a number of laws adopted by the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) and seconded by the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament).

Among them are amendments to the laws on presidential and parliamentary elections — lowering the eligibility age from 35 to 30 for the presidency and legislative posts in parliament's upper chamber.

The bill was approved by the Majlisi Namoyandagon on February 7 in accordance of the results of a May 2016 national referendum.

The legislative amendments also ban presidential and parliamentary candidates from receiving financial support from abroad, or from foreign citizens and organizations.

Among the laws signed by the president is also the law on introducing a two-year moratorium in Tajikistan on inspections of privately owned industrial production facilities.

But tax officials, prosecutors, the auditing chamber and anticorruption officials and the National Bank are still allowed to run checks,

The law is reportedly aimed at creating a “favorable climate for the development of productive entrepreneurship.”
