Ten projects to construct new and rehabilitate existing roads are currently being implemented in Tajikistan, according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT).

An official source at a MoT says a total cost of these projects is more than 575 million U.S. dollars (USD).

According to him, the road building projects are being implemented in the country mainly due to external loans (60 percent of the total amount).  Grants reportedly account for more than 30 percent and the share of Tajikistan’s government accounts for some 10 percent.

Since the beginning of the implementation of the projects, the companies of buildings contractors have reportedly utilized more than 200 million USD, the source added.

The implementation of the following road building projects is under way: Dushanbe-Tursunzoda-Uzbek Border highway; Dushanbe-Bokhtar highway (Phase I); Vose-Khovaling highway: Kangurt-Baljuvon-Khovaling highway; Khujand-Isfara highway; Konibodom-Patar highway.

The construction of the Kulob-Qalaikhumb highway (Kulob – Shamsiddin Shohin and Shkev-Qalaikhumb sections) as well as bridges and tunnels along the Dushanbe-Bokhtar-Kulob highway and avalanche galleries along the Dushanbe-Chanak highway is also under way.
