A government session, presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, took place on February 28.  

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Orif Khojazoda, Head of the State Committee on Land Management and Geodesy, reported on the availability of lands, categorizing them and land users in the country as of January 1, 2022.  

According him, 6,953,866 hectares of lands are available for use of agricultural enterprises and organizations; 682,828 hectares of those lands are irrigated lands.

An area of farmlands in the country reportedly decreased by 24,349 hectares in a year to December 31, 2020.  Arable lands decreased over the reporting period decreased by 205 hectares and the area of irrigated arable lands decreased by 246 hectares.

At the same time, the area of perennial trees over reporting period increased by 1,218 hectares. 

Speaking at the session, the head of state instructed relevant officials to attach particular importance to the issue of compiling land reports, introducing vacant lands into agricultural circulation, effectively using lands and preventing any kind of violations of the law in this direction.

The government members also discussed a number of draft laws that will be submitted for consideration to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament).
