A woman from Fayzobod district (about 60 kilometers east of Dushanbe), Bibikalon Nazirova, has been jailed for driving her daughter-in-law Manora Abdufattoh to suicide, Manora’s father Abdufattoh Misoqov told Asia-Plus in an interview.

A court in the Fayzobod district sentenced Bibikalon Nazirova to seven years in prison.

The sentenced followed her conviction on the charge driving to suicide (Article 109 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code.

Earlier, the woman had pleaded partially guilty to the death of her daughter-in-law.

During the court session on October 24, Bibikalon Nazirova admitted that she had had conflicts with her daughter-in-law.  She, however, stated that those conflicts could not have caused suicide.

Meanwhile, witnesses and evidence collected during the investigation of this case confirmed that Manora had complained several times of ill-treatment by her mother-in-law and sister-in-law (husband’s sister).

The body of Manora Abdufattoh with 26 stab wounds was found in an apartment in the administrative center of the Fayzobod district in June last year.  Manora had rented this apartment with her children.
