Tajik President Emomali Rahmon sent a telegram of condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin in connection with the emergency in Dagestan, the presidential press service reports.

"Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, we have received with a feeling of deep sadness the news of numerous human casualties as a result of an explosion at a gas station in the city of Makhachkala in the Republic of Dagestan," the Tajik leader wrote to his Russian counterpart.

He asked Putin to convey condolences and words of sympathy to the relatives and friends of the victims, and to all the injured – a speedy recovery.

Recall that 35 people died as a result of an explosion and fire that occurred on the evening of August 14 at a gas station in Makhachkala. At least three children are among the dead. According to various sources, up to 100 people were injured.

The explosion occurred in the car service building opposite the gas station. Then the fire spread to the gas station, where two fuel tanks exploded.

As the telegram channels wrote, because of the blast wave, burning fuel covered people who came to look at the car service that caught fire and were within a radius of 50 meters from it.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, the fire area was 600 square meters. The fire was extinguished after 4 hours.

August 15 is declared a day of mourning in Dagestan.
