Tajikistan, Kuwait to boost bilateral economic cooperation

The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon arrived in Kuwait yesterday on a visit with a number of Tajik officials.

Kuwaiti media reports say Emomali Rahmon is accompanied by an official delegation including Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda, Minister of Finance Fayziddin Qahhorzoda, Minister of Industry and New Technologies Sherali Kabir, Minister of Labor and Migration Gulnora Hasanzoda and a number of senior officials in the government.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah received the president at the airport.

According to Kuwait News Agency (KNA) Emomali Rahmon was also received by Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Al-Sabah, Deputy Chief of the National Guard Sheikh Faisal Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shareeda Al-Maousherji, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Al-Yahya and senior state officials.

His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince held meetings with President Rahmon and his accompanying delegation.

During the meetings, both sides reportedly discussed bilateral ties between the two friendly countries and latest regional and global developments.  Sheikh Fahad Al-Yusuf, Sheikh Mohammad, Minister Al-Yahya and senior officials from the Tajikistan government attended the meetings.

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties expressed their satisfaction with the current level and content of relations between the two countries.

During the talks, great interest was shown in the expansion of economic and commercial cooperation and investment.

In this regard, it was reportedly considered necessary to activate the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, to establish the Business Council of the two countries and the Joint Investment Fund. 

Holding entrepreneurs’ meetings and exhibitions of goods and products was also considered beneficial for both countries.

The attraction of Kuwaiti capital to the implementation of joint projects in the fields of light industry, food, metallurgy, agriculture and pharmaceuticals was another topic of discussion.

The parties reportedly also expressed interest in expanding cooperation in various cultural and humanitarian fields.

The enhancement of cooperation in the fields of tourism, science and education, healthcare was named as one of the future directions of relations between the two countries.

During the discussion of social issues, the Emir of the State of Kuwait, in particular, stated that they are aware of the effective policy of the Head of the State of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, to support women and raise their status in society, and they have also adopted the same policy in Kuwait, and among the women, several have been appointed to leadership positions in state affairs.

The parties also discussed a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.

At the end of the high-level meeting and negotiations, the President of the country, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, invited the Emir of Kuwait to pay an official visit to Tajikistan at his convenience.
