On the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, President Emomali Rahmon held a series of bilateral meetings on November 4 to discuss cooperation, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
During his meeting with the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the two leaders reportedly discussed a wide range of issues, with a particular focus on strengthening trade, economic, and investment ties between their countries.
Special attention was given to cooperation in energy, industry, mining, and agriculture. Both sides underscored the importance of Qatari investments in Tajikistan’s hydroelectric projects and the development of renewable energy sources.
The leaders also discussed opportunities for collaboration in labor migration, culture, science, education, and tourism.
President Rahmon reportedly highlighted the growing cooperation between the two countries within international and regional organizations, such as the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. He also expressed his support for Qatar’s efforts in addressing the Middle East crisis, particularly in the Gaza sector.
In addition to his meeting with the Qatari Emir, President Rahmon also held discussions with Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari.
The Tajik president’s official website says the meeting focused on furthering bilateral relations and strengthening the friendship between Tajikistan and Pakistan. Both leaders noted that regular high-level meetings serve as an indicator of the strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation between their countries.
As a next step, it was proposed to establish a Strategic Dialogue Council to enhance cooperation and activate other bilateral institutions. President Rahmon stressed the importance of utilizing the existing potential to increase trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
The two leaders also addressed the development of inter-parliamentary relations, including the activities of friendship parliamentary groups, the Tajik president’s official website noted.
The Associated Press of Pakistan reports that President Zardari said that Pakistan greatly values its multifaceted relationship with Tajikistan, rooted in shared history, culture, and linguistic affinity.
He reportedly noted that the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in 2024 reflects the growing depth of ties between the two countries. He welcomed the resumption of work on the CASA-1000 project, terming it a flagship initiative for shared prosperity, and invited Tajikistan to explore new avenues of trade and connectivity through Pakistan, including the possibility of restoring direct flights.
President Zardari also commended “the successful Dosti-II joint military exercise held in August 2025 and reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to assist Tajikistan in defense cooperation and capacity building.”
The President of Tajikistan reportedly invited President Zardari to visit Tajikistan, which the later accepted.
As it had been reported earlier, President Emomali Rahmon arrived in Qatar on November 3 to participate in the Second World Summit on Social Development, taking place in Doha from November 4-6, 2025.
