China has called on the Taliban to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent killing of Chinese nationals in Tajikistan, following attacks launched from Afghan territory.

The demand was voiced by China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, during a UN Security Council session on the situation in Afghanistan, held on December 10 in New York.

Fu strongly condemned the murder of Chinese citizens, emphasizing that the attacks originated from the Afghan side of the border with Tajikistan. He urged both the Taliban authorities and the Tajik government to tighten border controls to prevent similar incidents.

A video of Fu Cong’s address was shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by Afghanistan International.

The Chinese diplomat also stated that Beijing is ready to strengthen regional cooperation to reinforce coordination mechanisms and help maintain stability in Central Asia.

According to Tajik officials, two separate attacks occurred on November 26 and 30 in the border areas of Tajikistan. Both incidents reportedly involved militants crossing over from Afghanistan. Five Chinese workers were killed and five others injured.

On December 1, President Emomali Rahmon held an emergency meeting with heads of the country's security and law enforcement agencies. During the session, he strongly condemned the "illegal and provocative actions of Afghan citizens" along the Tajik border.

President Rahmon instructed relevant authorities to take urgent and effective measures to strengthen border security and prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

Chinese Embassy in Dushanbe has urged Chinese businesses and workers to evacuate the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border areas, where Chinese nationals were killed.
