Quite strong tremor jolts Tajik capital Sunday morning

DUSHANBE, October 27, Asia-Plus  — A tremor measuring 4.0 on a 12-point scale jolted Dushanbe on September 26 at around 6:28 a.m., according to the Dushanbe seismological station. 

Centered in Afghan Badakhshan province, some 260 kilometers southeast of Dushanbe, the quake could be felt in other regions of Tajikistan as well, the source said.  A tremor of magnitude 3.0-4.0 was felt in the city of Norak.  No injured or damage was reported.

In the epicenter, the earthquake had the magnitude 5.5, according to the source.    

In the meantime, Reuters reported that a strong earthquake of magnitude 5.6 struck northeastern Afghanistan on October 26.  A government official said that the tremor had caused no casualties or damage.  

The quake occurred at about 6:00 a.m. local time and was also felt in Kabul, some 260 kilometers from the epicenter lying to the south of the city of Faizabad of northeastern Badakhshan Province.
