Deputy prime minister visits Khatlon

DUSHANBE, April 17, Asia-Plus – The First Deputy Prime Minster, Asadullo Ghulomov, today left for the Khatlon province, a source at the government said.

According to the source, the main purpose of the visit is for the deputy prime minister to familiarize himself with situation at the Chubek water-intake facility in connection mudslides that hit some areas of Tajikistan following yesterday’s torrential rain.  

In the meantime, there is no complete information about the volume of damage caused by the overnight heavy rains.  

The source at the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES) said that they have not yet received new information from the disaster-hit areas.  “Special commissions are currently working in the sites to closely monitor the situation,” the CES source said.  

We will recall that as a result of the mudslide that hit the village of Degrez in Mouminobod a minor girl was killed.

 

Mudslides caused by the overnight torrential rain also caused serious damage to Vahdat, Rudaki and Panjakent districts.
