CES urges people in Tajikistan not to travel unnecessarily to mountain areas due to avalanche risk

Date:

DUSHANBE March 4, 2015, Asia-Plus — Warmer temperatures have increased the risk of further avalanches in Tajikistan, where dozens of snow-slides have occurred over the past two weeks.

According to data from Hydromet, warm temperatures in mountain valleys may increase the danger of avalanches, Orif Nozimov, a spokesman for the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CES), told Asia-Plus today morning.

“Therefore, the CES urges people not to travel unnecessarily to mountain areas,” the spokesman said.

We will recall that avalanches caused by abrupt warming and heavy snowfalls have killed at least five people in Tajikistan since February 22.
