SCO election monitoring mission assess Tajik parliamentary elections as transparent and democratic

DUSHANBE, March 5 2015, Asia-Plus – The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) election monitoring mission was in Tajikistan from February 26 to March 2 to monitor the parliamentary elections that took place in the country o March 1.

The SCO election monitoring mission reportedly held a number of meetings at the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan to get acquainted with the process of preparations  for the elections and election programs of political parties participating in the elections.

According to a statement released by the mission, all events were held openly and covered in detail in media sources in strict compliance with Tajikistan’s legislation.

Equal opportunities to carry out pre-election agitation campaign were reportedly provided to all political parties and candidates.

The SCO election monitoring mission notes that all necessary conditions have been created for impartial monitoring of the process of the election campaign.

For the purpose of giving impartial assessment of the voting process the mission members reportedly visited 33 polling stations in Dushanbe.  They got acquainted with work of precinct electoral commissions (PECs).

The mission says the work of the polling stations was organized in accordance with requirements of Tajikistan’s legislation.

The SCO election monitoring mission assessed Tajikistan’s parliamentary elections as transparent and democratic.
