DUSHANBE, December 22, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has called on his counterparts from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member nations to take efficient measures against challenges and threats posed to the CSTO area of responsibility (AoR) by international terrorism.
Tajik leader stated this yesterday while delivering a statement at a session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Moscow.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, the session’s agenda included issues related to the current situation in the world and in the region, strengthening regional security and stability, and the joint fight against international terrorism and extremism.
“The current international situation requires collective and timely measures to counter international terrorism and extremism, Emomali Rahmon said.
According to him, the rapidly changing situation in the region with involvement of new forces has led to unpredictable situation and created new challenges.
“The most dangerous factor for CSO member nations is participation of some of our citizens in armed conflicts in the region,” Rahmon said, pointing to the necessity of interaction and exchange of information among the relevant agencies of the CSTO member nations.
Tajik president also urged to take steps to detect the recruiters and prevent youth from joining extremist groups.
He also called on the session participants to take measures to strengthen the border security of the CSTO member states.
Emomali Rahmon concluded that Tajikistan, which is on the first line of defense in the fight against terrorism and extremism, is taking all necessary measures to counter those threats and challenges.
The Collective Security Treaty Organization now groups Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
