A 56-year-old resident of the northern city of Istaravshan, Majid Berdiyev, who had previous conviction, has been arrested on suspicion of having committed the brutal murder, according to the Interior Ministry’s website.
The incident reportedly took place on October 2, at about 11:00 am.
The man inflicted nineteen stab wounds on his ex-wife Nigora Kuliyeva, 40, in jealous rage, the website said.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Berdiyev under the provisions of Article 104 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – murder; an investigation is under way.
According to the Sughd chief prosecutor Habibullo Vohidov, eight murders have been reported in the province over the first six months of this year, which was 8 cases fewer than in the same period last year.
