A large amount of narcotic drugs was sized by Tajik border guards in three separate operations carried out at the Tajik-Afghan border in Khatlon province on June 10, according to the press center of the Main Border Guard Directorate of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS).

A totaled reportedly included 57 kilograms of hashish and five kilograms of raw opium.

In the afternoon of June 10, Tajik border guards on a routine patrol reportedly thwarted a group of armed drug smugglers attempting to illegally cross the border river in the area of responsibility of the “Hamadoni” border unit.

As a result of exchange of fire, the trespassers were forced to return to Afghan territory, leaving seven kilograms of hashish and four kilograms of raw opium at the scene of incident.

“On the same day in the evening, Tajik border guards thwarted a group of armed drug smugglers who were illegally crossing the border river in the area of responsibility of the “Hamadoni” border unit,” said Mohammad Ulughkhojayev, a spokesman for the Main Border Guard Directorate.

As a result of skirmish, the Afghan drug smugglers were forced to return to Afghan territory.  The borer gourds reportedly found 15 kilograms of hashish and one kilogram of raw opium on the spot.

In the night of June 10, closer to midnight, a skirmish occurred between Tajik border guards on routine patrol and a group of armed drug traffickers in the area of responsibility of the “Panj” border unit.  The trespassers were forced to return to Afghan territory, leaving 35 kilograms of hashish at the scene of incident.

No casualties were reported among Tajik border guards in those skirmishes, according to Ulughkhojayev.
