DUSHANBE, April 13, 2009, Asia-Plus — After participation at the CIS foreign ministers’ session in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi visited Tehran on his way to Dushanbe, according to the MFA information department.
In Tehran, Zarifi held talks with Iranian counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki, on April 11. They discussed a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran, including completion of construction of the Istiqlol (Anzob) tunnel in northern Tajikistan, the pace of construction of the Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant (HPP), development of feasibility study for construction of a new railway link connecting Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran, a s well as provision of loan to Tajikistan.
In the course of the talks, Zarifi and Mottaki also touched upon state and prospects of further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and some international and regional issues being of mutual interest, the source said.
