The Dushanbe-Khujand highway has reopened for traffic today afternoon, Daler Merganov, a spokesman for the Branch of Innovative Road Solutions (IRS) in Tajikistan, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
“Currently, the work on expansion of the highway is under way,” Merganov said.
Recall, the highway was temporarily closed for traffic today morning after a series of avalanches blocked the highway in some places. Several avalanches reportedly hit the highway in some places in the Varzob district.
No injured was reported.
According to some source, the avalanche prone areas occupy about 75% of Tajikistan’s territory.
