Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on October 12 arrived in the Kazakh capital, Astana, to participate in the sixth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), a session of the CIS Heads of State Council and the Central Asia – Russia forum.

Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Presidential Adviser for Foreign Ties Azamsho Sharif, Head of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) Saimumin Yatimov and some other officials are accompanying Emomali Rahmon on his visit to Astana. 

On the sidelines of the CICA summit, Emomali Rahmon on October 13 met in Astana with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The Tajik president’s official website says that parties discussed issues related to intensification of activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation for achievement of constructive goals and the possibility of establishment of the Joint Council of Freight Companies of the two countries.  

Tajik leader reportedly called the meeting a good opportunity to discuss state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan.  

The parties exchanged views on further expansion of the mutually beneficial cooperation, expansion of trade and economic cooperation, development of transportation ties, and expansion of political and military-and-technical cooperation.  

At the end of the meeting, Emomali Rahmon invited Shehbaz Sharif to pay an official visit to Tajikistan at any convenient time.  

Meanwhile, Pakistani media reports says Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Kazakhstan on October 12 to attend the two-day 6th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

The Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) says he is accompanied by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik and other government representatives.

The prime minister’s meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon reportedly focused on strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries in diverse fields.

During the meeting, the partied expressed resolve to bolster the scope of bilateral engagement, Aurangzeb was cited as saying.
