After devastating earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria, in which tens of thousands of people have been killed and hundreds of buildings have been destroyed, the Committee for Architecture and Construction under the Government of Tajikistan has decided to check all new high-rise buildings constructed in Dushanbe, Khujand, the capital of Sughd province, and Bokhtar, the capital of Khatlon province, for seismic resistance.   

In this regard, the head of the Committee for Architecture and Construction on February 16 signed a special order to set up a special commission to check the seismic resistance of the new high-rise building in the mentioned areas.  

The commission members will include deputy head of the Committee for Architecture and Construction, who will head the commission, as well as representatives of the Committee  Department for Construction and Integration Process, the Service of the State Control over Architecture and Construction, the Institute of Geology and Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) “Research Institute of Construction and Architecture”, the SUE “Lohiajash” and the Directorate of State examination of the Urban Planning Project Documentation. 

Besides, working groups have bene set up Khujand and Bokhtar.

An official within the Committee for Architecture and Construction says the inspection of high-ring buildings for seismic resistance will begin on February 22.  

According to him, the Committee for Architecture and Construction has all the necessary instruments and equipment to inspect buildings for seismic resistance.  

“Building documents and their compliance with the rules and regulations of the urban planning are also subject to verification,” the source added.  

The order by the head of the Committee for Architecture and Construction notes that the inspection findings should be submitted for consideration to the Committee for Architecture and Construction head before March 10, 2023.
