On Tuesday April 29, President Emomali Rahmon met here with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu.

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties discussed projects in the fields of agriculture, sustainable land use, and food security.

The main topic of the meeting was the expansion of cooperation on key areas — from the effective management of water and land resources to the implementation of modern agro-technologies.

The FAO expressed its readiness to support the implementation of national programs for the development of the agri-food system, adaptation to climate change, and strengthening food resilience.

The focus is on the digitalization of the sector, seed production, pest control, and scientific research.

The parties reportedly also discussed the "UN Decade of Family Farming" (until 2028) and the extension of the Sustainable Agriculture Program until 2030.

Emomali Rahmon thanked the FAO for including the Hisor sheep and Toyfi, the pink grape variety, in the GIAHS list of globally important agricultural heritage systems.

The idea of creating a Tajik corner at the organization's headquarters was also discussed.

Meanwhile, FAO Tajikistan reports that FAO Director-General QU Dongyu arrived in Tajikistan on April 27 to advance agri-food partnerships.  He reportedly visited LLC “Marmari” (poultry slaughterhouse) & Acoma LCC (sausage production), highlighting local innovation for sustainable food systems.
