Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Speaker, Rustam Emomali, who is also Mayor of Dushanbe, is currently in Moscow on an official visit.

Yesterday, he held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kremlin to discuss cooperation.

Majlisi Milli’s press center says the discussions focused on strengthening strategic partnership, expanding inter-parliamentary dialogue, developing economic and humanitarian ties, and addressing labor migration issues.

Emomali expressed gratitude for Russia’s assistance in two social projects in Dushanbe: the construction of the Mayakovsky Russian Drama Theater and the Sirius Center for Gifted Children.

The necessity of revitalizing the work of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation was emphasized, especially in the fields of industry, logistics, and investment.

The talks also highlighted cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including active collaboration in education, Russian language promotion, and popularization of Russian culture.

Labor migration cooperation and efforts to resolve pressing issues in this area were key points of discussion.

Emomali and Putin reportedly also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest, including the situation in Afghanistan.

The Kremlin reports that on the Russian side, the meeting was also attended by Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko.

In his Telegram channel, Rustam Emomali noted that at the meeting the parties discussed issues of cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan.
