The Interior Ministry of Tajikistan has confirmed the tragic death of three children following a fire in Vahdat Township.  The victims, all members of the same family, were reportedly killed in a blaze that occurred in the village of Jangalobod, which is subordinate to Vahdat Township, on the night of June 7-8.

The Interior Ministry's official website says the fire was caused by an unattended candle, which led to a blaze that engulfed an area of 35 square meters in the home of Karim Kholmurodov.  The thick smoke from the fire led to the deaths of the three children, who were all underage, officials stated.

The authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of the financial damage caused by the fire.  An investigation into the incident is currently underway, with officials expressing their condolences to the family.

Fires in Tajikistan have been a persistent issue, with hundreds of incidents occurring annually. In many cases, fires result in fatalities and significant property loss. Authorities often attribute the causes of such fires to electrical malfunctions or negligence by residents.

Official figures indicate that in 2024, Tajikistan recorded 1,175 fires, which claimed the lives of 17 people, including 11 minors.  In 2023, 1,269 fires were reported, resulting in the deaths of 23 individuals.  The Interior Ministry also stated that the fires in 2024 caused damage amounting to 43.8 million Tajik somonis.
