DUSHANBE, September 28, 2010, Asia-Plus  — To settle conflict in Rasht district, eastern Tajikistan the Social Democratic Party (SDP) offers to use people’s diplomacy.

Speaking to reporters in Dushanbe, the SDP leader Rahmatillo Zoirov noted on September 28 that Social-Democrats condemn any kind of bloodshed and terrorist acts on territory of the country.  “However, we are convinced that it is impossible to settle this situation by force,” Zoirov said.

“To settle the conflict in the Rasht district it is necessary to enlist the services of known public figures and leaders of political parties in order that they could examine the situation,” the SDP leader noted.

According to him, the previous armed conflict in the country showed that it is impossible to settle such conflicts by force.  “It is necessary to find peaceful solution to all problems,” said Zoirov, “People’s diplomacy should diagnose the problem.  That is why SDP considers that it is necessary to declare Rasht district the zone of negotiations.”

He added that the current situation in the region showed that positions of the government and former opposition field commanders are destructive.
