KHUJAND. 24 May. Asia-Plus — Unwilling to pay the fee truck drivers risk their lives as they bypass the “Istaravshan” tolling plaza using bypass roads.
Last Saturday, May 22, a minivan has turned over at one of bypass roads, thus, blocking the way for two KAMAZ trucks loaded with 10 tones cargo.
Unwilling to pay the fee drivers bypass the tolling highway using fields and land plots owned by local dekhkan farm “Namuna” located 500 meters away from the Dushanbe-Chanak tolling post. The fee for the 1st category of vehicles makes 14 Somoni. Drivers pay 20 dirams per each kilometer of the highway. Initially IRS company, which manages the tolling highway, planned to charge 21 Somoni or 30 dirams per each kilometer.
Taxi drivers have increased the cost of trip from Khujand to Istaravshan saying that they have to pay the fee but often use bypass roads.
