DUSHANBE, March 12, 2010, Asia-Plus — The government has raised more than 770.4 million somoni (equivalent to more than 176 million U.S. dollars) by March 10 for construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP), according to the Ministry of Finance.

Shares for more than 26.8 million somoni have been sold through Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank), some 141 million somoni worth of shares have been sold through Orienbonk, some 115 million somoni worth of shares through Agroinvestbonk, more than 9 million somoni worth of shares through Tajprombank, 16.8 million somoni worth of shares through Tojik Sodirot Bonk, 2.5 million somoni worth of shares through the Bonki Rushdi Tojikiston (Tajikistan Development Bank), more than 2.4 million somoni worth of shares through Fononbonk, 3.2 million somoni worth of shares through Eskhata Bank and more than 453 million somoni worth of shares have been sold through the MoF Board of Treasury.

To raise funds to complete construction of the Roghun HPP the government started to sell shares in Roghun to people on January 6 this year.  Tajikistan has issued 6 billion somoni (US$1.37 billion) worth of Roghun shares.
