KULOB, January 21, 2010, Asia-Plus — 1,275 new cases of tuberculosis were detected in Khatlon’s Kulob zone last year, which is 221 cases fewer than in 2008, Mirzoali Miraliyev, deputy head of the Khatlon health directorate in charge of the Kulob zone, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, 78 people died of tuberculosis in the area over the report period.
“In 2009, the disease was registered in all ten districts of the Kulob zone and 220 breeding grounds for tuberculosis have not yet been liquidated in the zone,” Miraliyev said, noting that medical workers are taking measures to take the process under control.
“In addition to funds earmarked by the Khatlon regional budget for nutrition at TB centers, another 191,000 somoni were provided last year for purchasing medicines and additional 77,000 somoni were provided for purchasing expendables,” the health official said.
