‘We consider further development of partnership with the OSCE important’ says Tajik leader

The President of Tajikistan held talks with the OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu.

On May 20, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, received the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Feridun Sinirlioglu. The Tajik president’s official website reports that the parties focused on issues of bilateral cooperation in all three main areas of the Organization’s activities — politico-military, economic-environmental, and human dimensions.

He added that the government of Tajikistan is making efforts to ensure that the programs and projects implemented in Tajikistan meet the real needs of our people. The positive work of the OSCE Program Office in Dushanbe and the OSCE Border Management Staff College was noted.

In the politico-military dimension, priority areas were named as projects on preventing cybercrime, combating drug trafficking, improving customs procedures, and information exchange.

Economic and environmental programs cover water and climate issues, the “green” economy and energy, as well as digital technologies. Additionally, preparations for international conferences on global water issues and combating terrorism and its financing, which will be held in May and June in Dushanbe and New York, were discussed.

In the human dimension, discussions included human rights, improvement of the electoral system, gender equality, prevention of domestic violence, combating human trafficking, development of youth policy, and strengthening the capacity of the media.

The parties exchanged views on current issues of the international regional agenda. Emomali Rahmon emphasized Tajikistan’s unwavering position on the peaceful resolution of conflicts:
