Alovuddin Davlatov’s father faces charge of not reporting a crime

Date:

DUSHANBE, January 31, Asia-Plus  — Muzaffar Davlatov, the father Alovuddin Davlatov, who was reportedly killed together with seven other militants in a special operation carried out by security forces in Rasht district last month, has been detained, Mahmadullo Asadulloyev, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), told Asia-Plus today.

According to him, Muzaffar Davlatov faces charge of not reporting crimes committed by his son Alovuddin Davlatov.  “The main military prosecutor’s office is investigating the case,” the spokesman said.

We will recall that on January 4, the Interior Ministry forces raided a building in the village of Punob in Rasht district, where a group of militants were sheltering.  Tohir Normatov, the head of the Interior Ministry staff, said Alovuddin Davlatov, a former field commander from the civil war-era Tajik opposition, was among eight people killed in the operation.

Alovuddin Davlatov was one of the militant leaders the authorities blame for an ambush on the military convoy in September that left at least 28 servicemen dead.

Meanwhile, Alovuddin Davlatov’s brother Husniddin Davlatov is waiting for sentence.  Husniddin Davlatov, who is an activist of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP), was one of two IRP members in the Rasht district legislature.  He was arrested in Dushanbe on September 10, 2010 on suspicion of an active membership in the banned Salafi group.

On September 20, Husniddin Davlatov was shown on the national television.  He said he was arrested by law enforcement authorities because he had supplied his brother, Alovuddin Davlatov, with explosives and military uniforms.  Husniddin Davlatov added that his brother organized a training camp for local and foreign youth in which he taught them how to carry out terrorist attacks.
