GIZ project to assist regional cooperation in CA discussed in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, July 11, 2011, Asia-Plus  — On Friday July 8, Ms. Larisa Kislyakova, deputy chairperson of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), received representatives of the GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation) project, Assistance to Regional economic Cooperation in Central Asia, the CCI press center reports.

The meeting was reportedly held to discuss events being held in the framework of the project.  Ms. Kislyakova highly appraised the work carried out by the project officers, the source said.

During the meeting, she also informed them of introduction of “One-Stop-Shop” (OSS) principle in Tajikistan, noting that the implementation of the new registration system will give an additional impulse to economic reforms and development of business environment in Tajikistan.

The GIZ program Assistance to Regional Economic Cooperation in Central Asia, aims to improve economic cooperation structure and promote growth of regional trade through reduction of non-tariff barriers in trade: administrative barriers (ABT) and technical barriers (TBT).

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (German Agency for International Cooperation) or GIZ is a private international enterprise founded in 1975 by Erhard Eppler and owned by the German Federal Government, specializing in, but not limited to, technical cooperation for sustainable development with worldwide operation.  It primarily works for public sector organizations and is headquartered in Eschborn, Germany. It was formerly known as Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (German Agency for Technical Cooperation or GTZ).

Wikipedia reports that on January 1, 2011 Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH became a fusion with three other German organisations: German Development Service, Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ), and the International Training and Capacity Building.

The GIZ mainly operates on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Further clients are other departments of the government, international donors like the European Union, World Bank or the United Nations, partner countries and the private sector. The cooperation with private enterprises is an emerging field in the domain of sustainable development promotion.
