DUSHANBE, July 15, 2011, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan must have its own commercial agents at the world exchanges where the strategically important commodities for Tajikistan are traded, Suhrob Sharipov, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan, told a news conference in Dushanbe on July 14.
“For example, we must have our national brokers at the oil product exchange in Turkmenistan, the Liverpool Cotton Exchange and so forth,” Sharipov said.
According to him, Tajik now has all opportunities to send its commercial agents to the world exchanges in order to arrange purchase and sale of the strategically important commodities. “It is very important to the country, and therefore, the economic bloc ministries must work seriously in this direction,” said the expert, “We must work not only basis of recommendations and proposals from international institutions that develop projects and programs for us, we must begin thinking and working by ourselves, taking into account national interests and threats that may occur.”
Sharipov is sure that at present economic problems pose threat to Tajikistan’s stability rather than the political ones. “At present there are no any serious political problems in the country,” he added.
