DUSHANBE, October 29, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Yesterday’s fire in the building of the administration of Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district was an unfortunate accident caused by violation of the fire code and non-compliance with fire safety requirements.

A source at the fire department within the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that the fire had been caused by electrical malfunction that had resulted from oil air heater left unattended.

“The fire destroyed an area of 50 square meters and damage caused by the fire amounts to more than 12,000 somoni,” the source said.

As it had been reported earlier, the fire probably broke out at 8:37 a.m. in one of offices of the second floor.  Several fir crews participated in putting out the fir and it was extinguished in some 30 minutes.

31 fires were reported in the country last week and damage caused by them was estimated at more than 92,000 somoni.
