KULOB, November 21, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Over the first ten months of this year, 20 cases of anthrax in humans have been registered in six of ten districts of Khatlon’s Kulob region, which is 20 times more than in the same period of last year and 10 times more than in the whole year of 2007, according to the Kulob Center for Sanitary and Epidemiologic Supervision. 

“Last year, the disease was registered in only the Muminobod district, while this, year, four cases of anthrax in humans have been reported in Muminobod, eight cases in Vose, three case in Temourmalik and two cases in Danghara,” the source said.  

In the meantime, the number of cases of brucellosis in humans has decreased in the region from 85 cases in January-October 2007 to 56.  The disease has been reported in eight districts of the region.  No cases of brucellosis in humans have been registered in Shuroobod and Hamadoni districts, the source said.
