DUSHANBE, March 2, 1010, Asia-Plus  — On Monday March 1, Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi received members of the mission of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA) for observation of the February 28 parliamentary elections in Tajikistan, led by Ms. Pia Christmas-Moeller, Special Coordinator of the OSCE short-term observers and Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, according to the MFA information department.

In the course of the talks, Pia Christmas-Moeller  acquainted Zarifi with the findings of work of the international election observation mission.

It was noted that election day had taken place in calm atmosphere and that there had been some shortcomings in the process of voting.

Zarifi noted that the government of Tajikistan had created all necessary conditions for holding of transparent elections in the country and provided assistance to international observers in doing their work.  According to him, there have been objective reasons for the existing shortcomings and all proposals and recommendations of observers would be taken into account.

The sides also discussed issues related to socioeconomic development of the country, regional cooperation in Central Asia, border control, support for reconstruction of Afghanistan’s economy, etc.
