Dushanbe. June 16. “Asia-Plus” — Tajikistan is planning to resume negotiations with the Uzbek gas supply company Uztransgaz regarding supplies of natural gas for the Tajik carbamide producer Tajikazot.

According to Tajik Ministry of Energy and Industry, a special intergovernmental commission has been set up to study the issue.

“First of all, Tajik Antimonopoly agency and Tajiktransgaz should identify tariffs and prices for supplies of natural gas to this enterprise. As soon as these issues are adjusted, related proposals will be sent to Uzbekistan. As soon as this is done, we can talk about further negotiations,” the source said.

According to Tajik Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Tajikazot has suspended production of nitrogen fertilizers (carbamide) due to high fuel prices. “Dekhkan farmers could not afford themselves to purchase fertilizers at such high prices which have rapidly increased 2,5 times,” the ministry has said.
