DUSHANBE, October 14, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The U.S. Embassy facilitated a trip for business owners from throughout Tajikistan to attend the GRAPH EXPO 2010 business trade show in Chicago.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, the trip was organized by the Embassy’s Economic Section through the International Buyer Program, which coordinates international attendance at U.S. trade shows.

Visitors to GRAPH EXPO 2010 met with U.S. companies to discuss potential business projects and to establish business ties in the printing and publishing sector. This is the second International Buyer Program of 2010 for Tajikistan.

Mr. Nazir Sharipov, Chairman of Tajik-American Chamber of Commerce, said he had the opportunity to meet with several dozen companies, including Hewlett-Packard and Xerox, to discuss investment potential in Tajikistan.

Sharipov added, “One of the priorities for the Tajik-American Chamber of Commerce will be the promotion of new business ideas between U.S. and Tajikistan companies, including participation in energy-related exhibitions and projects.”

The U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe jointly with the U.S. Department of Commerce organizes the International Buyer Program in various sectors to allow Tajik and U.S. businesses to promote their mutually beneficial interests. Since 1993, the American people have provided more than $900 million in assistance programs that support economic growth, democratic institutions, health care, education and security in Tajikistan.
