DUSHANBE, October 27, 2010, Asia-Plus  —  Over the first nine months of this year, officers from the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption detected 736 corruption-related crimes, including 372 cases of embezzlement of state funds and fraud and 162 cases of bribery, the director of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption Fattoh Saidov.

According to the statistical data for the report period, education has remained the most corrupt sphere in the country.  Over the same nine-month period, representative from the Ministry of Education have committed 62 corruption-related crimes, Ministry of energy and Industries – 37, Ministry of Health – 35, Ministry of Agriculture – 28, Ministry of Transport and Communications – 22, Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources – 21, etc.

“In January-September 2010, 73 representatives of the law enforcement and power-wielding structures have been caught in corruption, including 33 police officers (43 crimes), five prosecutors (25 crimes), 21 officers from the Ministry of Defense (23 crimes), seven customs officers (11 crimes), three tax officers (4 crimes) and four representatives of the judicial system (9 crimes),” Saidov said.
