DUSHANBE, October 10, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The 14th joint board meeting of the Interior Ministries of Tajikistan and the Russian that took place in Dushanbe on October 10 resulted in adoption of appropriate decisions and signing of the protocol and the plan of work of the joint board for 2013.

Speaking at the meeting, Russian Minister of Interiors Vladimir Kolokoltsev noted that the ideologically motivated extremist activity, aimed at incitement of ethnic, social and religious enmity and the forcible overthrow of or change to the constitutional order, poses the most serious threat to Russia and Tajikistan.

Dwelling on the problems of fight against transnational organized crime groups, Russian minister noted that some 110,000 people were brought to justice last year fro the drug-related crimes.  “968 of them are nationals of Tajikistan, including 133 persons who committed drug-related crimes as members of the organized crime groups,” Kolokoltsev noted.

He pointed to the necessity of organizing constant exchange of information on the drug situation in both countries.

Speaking at the meeting, Tajik Minister of Interiors Ramazon Rahimov raised the migration problem.

The meeting participants, in particular, discussed opportunities of creating proper legal and social conditions for migrant workers through easing of some of the registration restrictions for Tajik migrant workers coming to the Russian Federation.

The joint board also discussed bilateral cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries in preventing crime, addressing extremism and fighting transnational crime groups.

The meeting also considered a draft plan of work of the joint board meeting of the interior ministries of Tajikistan and Russia for 2013.

Tajik and Russian interior ministries have held the joint board meetings annually since 1998.
