DUSHANBE, July 11, 2014, Asia-Plus – Kyrgyz border guards reportedly wounded two residents of Tajikistan’s Vorukh exclave inside Kyrgyzstan participating in a spontaneous protest rally.

“A spontaneous protest rally took place in Vorukh yesterday following the shooting along the Tajik-Kyrgyz border in which one Tajik national was killed and at least eight were wounded,” an official source at the Isfara mayor’s office told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, residents of Vorukh were demanding an end to injustice being made by Kyrgyz border guards.  “Kyrgyz border guards came to the place of the rally and opened desultory fire as a result of which two residents of Vorukh sustained wounds of varying severity,” the source said.

Tajik border guards came to the site of new incident and asked local residents to disperse and after that Kyrgyz border guards left the area, the source said, noting that Isfara residents are worried and local authorities are trying to quiet them.
