DUSHANBE, July 11, 2014, Asia-Plus – A group of senior representatives of Kyrgyz border service arrived in Dushanbe today morning.

An official source at the Chief Staff of the Main Border Guard Directorate under the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan (SCNS) says they are currently holding talks with Tajik border troops commander, Lieutenant-General Rajabali Rahmonali.

The meeting is reportedly being held behind closed doors.

“I think the yesterday’s shooting along the Tajik-Kyrgyz border is major topic of the meeting,” the source said.

We will recall that one Tajik national was killed and at least seven were injured on July 10 as Kyrgyz border guards opened fire on local citizens in Tajikistan’s Vorukh exclave inside Kyrgyzstan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan yesterday released a statement regarding the shooting.  Tajik MFA, in particular, noted that Tajik border guards had fired no shot.  “In connection with this incident that occurred despite multiple agreements on uncoordinated areas, the Tajik side expresses regret about violation of those agreements by separate agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic.”
