DUSHANBE, August 8, 2016, Asia-Plus – The head of the personnel department at the Accounts of Chamber of Tajikistan, Kenjaboy Jourayev, who had been reported missing since July 22, has been found dead not far from the Khoja Obi Garm settlement in the Varzob district.

An official source at the Accounts Chamber says Jourayev had been on vacation and he had been reported missing since July 22.

Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, locally known as Ozodi, reports that unknown persons came to his home on July 22 and took him with themselves.

Search for him reportedly lasted several days and his body was found not far from the Khoja Obi Garm settlement in the Varzob district on July 28.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted over Jourayev’s death and an investigation is under way.

We will recall that Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament passed the law on the establishment of the Accounts Chamber on June 1, 2011.  This government institution reportedly controls revenue and expenditure parts of the national budget, off-budget funds and investments coming in the country’s economy from abroad.  The Accounts Chamber was reportedly established to tighten control of finances as well as conduct audit and assess the national budget.  The Accounts Chamber is accountable to the President and the Parliament.  The Majlisi Namoyandagon elects chief auditors of the Chamber of Accounts upon the recommendation of the President; chief auditor may be elected to not more than two seven-year terms.
