Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today received Kyrgyz Prime Minister Sooronbai Zheenbekov in his countryside residence Pugus, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The two reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.  

They, in particular, noted that the two nations were connected by common border and a joint use of water resources.

According to them, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have all necessary preconditions for further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation.

Rahmon and Zheenbekov reportedly highly appraised cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on the implementation of the Central Asia South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade (CASA-1000) Project that aims at promoting development of the whole region.  

They also discussed ways to expand cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy, transportation, cross-border trade, education and science. 

Besides, Rahmon and Zheenbekov exchanged views on the issues related to problems of fighting transnational crimes and establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan, the Tajik president’s website said.  

Sooronbai Zheenbekov arrived in Tajikistan to participate in a quadrilateral summit of CASA-1000 member nations.
