A trilateral summit between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan took place today in Tajik president’s countryside residence, Pugus.  Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif participated in the meeting that focused on political interaction, economic issues, and the joint fight against threats to regional and international security.

The main emphasis among the economic issues was reportedly placed on trade and investments, energy, transport infrastructure, and increasing contacts between the three counties’ business communities.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the leaders of the three nations exchanged views on implementation of joint projects aimed at constructing railways and highways connecting the nations and developing air and telecommunications ties.

They also discussed issues related to signing of a trilateral transit trade agreement.

Besides, they considered the possibility of holding joint exhibitions, agricultural and investment meetings.

Emomali Rahmon, in particular, proposed to organize an exhibition of agricultural and artisan goods of Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan in Dushanbe during Mehrgan celebrations.

The sides also exchanged views on ways to stabilize the current military and political situation in Afghanistan and jointly combat terrorism, extremism, organized crime and drug trafficking, the Tajik president’s website said.
