The Tajik law enforcement authorities expect increase in drug smuggling out of Afghanistan this year.

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the deputy director of the Drug Control Agency (DCA), Murtazo Haidarzoda, revealed on January 24 that country’s law enforcement authorities and power-wielding structures seized 4,448 kilograms of drugs last year, which was 29.8 percent more than in 216.

According to him, a totaled included 110 kilograms of heroin, 1,211 kilograms of raw opium, 2,384 kilograms of hashish and 742 kilograms of cannabis.   

Haidarzoda further noted that the Tajik law enforcement authorities expect increase in drug smuggling out of Afghanistan in 2018 as area under opium poppy cultivation had increased in that country.  

“The law enforcement and power-wielding structures of Tajikistan are taking all necessary measures to counter this threat,” the Tajik drug control official added.
