Of 1,633 persons wanted on suspicion of commission of various crimes, 662 have reportedly been detained in this past year in the northern province of Sughd.

Sughd chief prosecutor Furqat Khojazoda noted this at a meeting of meeting of the Coordinating Council of the Law Enforcement Agencies of Sughd Province that  took place in Sughd’s capital, Khujand, on December 21. 

It was noted that 102 of the detained persons are suspected of committing crimes associated with terrorist and extremist activities, 67others are suspected of committing embezzlement-related crimes and 113 detained persons are suspected of committing fraud-related crimes.  

It was also noted that 30 of the detained persons have been extradited to Tajikistan from other countries; 27 of them have been arrested in Russia and three others have been extradited from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
