Two minor Tajik citizens, who had been left without guardianship in Russia, have been safely returned to their homeland.  The Tajikistan Embassy in Moscow reported the return on July 17, in accordance with the CIS agreement on the repatriation of minors.

The children were sent back to Tajikistan based on the cooperation agreement among CIS countries aimed at protecting the rights and safety of minors abroad.

However, the embassy did not provide further details on why the children were left without their parents or relatives, nor did they clarify the circumstances under which this occurred.

This is not the first such case. Last year, with assistance from the Consular Service of the Tajikistan Embassy in Moscow, three other minors, who had been left without care in Russia, were also returned to their families in Tajikistan.  The reasons behind their lack of guardianship were not disclosed either.

In total, 38 Tajik minors were reportedly repatriated to Tajikistan over the first seven months of 2024.  Common reasons for minors being left without supervision abroad include abandonment in maternity hospitals after birth, parental legal issues, lack of proper documentation, or the death of parents.
