KHOROG, April 22, 2010, Asia-Plus  — An emergency situation has emerged at the Pamir-1 HPP in GBAO’s Shugnan district.

According to press service of the Pamir Energy Company (PamirEnergy), which operates the station, a huge crack has appeared in the nearby rock and heavy rainfalls on April 11-18 may cause a landslide.  A huge mass of boulders some 480 cubic meters in size can break away from the rock and hit the building placing the units, compressor station and the main transformer of the plant.

“By GBAO governor’s order specialists from the regional agency for emergency situation and the Main Geology Directorate under the Government of Tajikistan monitored the situation and came to a conclusion that the rock will not break away in the near future,” the source said.

However, to prevent the possible disaster specialists from these bodies jointly specialists from the energy facility constructing company Pomir are taking measure to ensure safe demolition of the rock, he added.

All the works are planned to be finished during a week.  Twenty-four hour service has been organized at the site.
