DUSHANBE, June 24, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his accompanying delegation are currently on a state visit, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

President Emomali Rahmon heading a high-ranking governmental delegation arrived in Kuwait on June 23 on a three-day state visit.

Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, State Advisor to the President for Foreign Policy Erkin Rahmatulloyev, Finance Minister Safarali Najmiddinov, Minister of Health Nusratullo Salimov, Chairman of State Committee on Investments and State-owned Property Management Davlatali Saidov, Chairman of Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs Maliksho Nematov, Director of the Agency for State Material Reserves Nourmahmad Ahmadov and some other officials are accompanying President Rahmon on his visit to Kuwait.

According to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), President Rahmon and his accompanying delegation were met at the airport by HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH Crown the Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Deputy National Guard President Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Deputy Minister of Amiri Diwan Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah, top state officials and top police, army and National Guard commanders.

A guest coordinating committee was reportedly formed to accompany the guests during their visit to Kuwait.  The committee is headed by Amiri Diwan Advisor Dr. Abdullah Maatouq Al-Maatouq, KUNA reported.

On June 23, President Emomali Rahmon held talks with Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.  The two discussed a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kuwait in the fields of politics, economy and science, Tajik president’s website reports.

Sunday afternoon, President Rahmon held official talks with the Amir of Kuwait Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah.  The talks reportedly focused on bilateral relations and means of bolstering them in various fields as well as the latest regional and international developments.

In the course of the talks, President Rahmon, in particular, noted that Tajikistan attached significant importance to its relations with Kuwait.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon reportedly exchanged national awards at Bayan Palace on Sunday.

His Highness the Amir presented the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Medal in recognition of President Rahmon”s role and contribution to boosting bilateral relations, and in appreciation for the Tajik people and President Emomali Rahmon bestowed the First Degree Order of Ismoili Somoni on His Highness the Amir.

Tajikistan and Kuwait signed a number of cooperation agreements in a ceremony attended by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi and Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah signed an agreement regarding exemption of visa requirement for holders of diplomatic and special passports, as well as an agreement on cultural and arts cooperation.

Tajik Finance Minister Safarali Najmiddinov and Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister, and Acting Oil Minister Mustafa Al-Shimali signed an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and on capital avoiding double taxation, financial evasion, and taxation on capital.

Chairman of Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs of Tajikistan Maliksho Nematov and Kuwaiti Minister of Commerce and Industry Anas Khaled Al-Saleh signed tourism cooperation agreement.

Tajik Minister of Health Nusratullo Salimov and Kuwaiti Minister of Health Dr. Mohammad Barrak Al-Haifi signed an agreement on health cooperation.

Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State-owned Property Management of Tajikistan Davlatali Saidov and Director-General of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) Abdulwahab Ahmad Al-Bader signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

A number of other cooperation documents are expected to be signed today on the sidelines of the Tajik-Kuwaiti business forum.
