Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will address a joint meeting of both chambers of the parliament on December 22, 2016, an official source at Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament  told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Usually, in an address to the parliament, the president discusses the country’s priorities in domestic politics and foreign policy as well as the main economic challenges.

In his previous address to the parliament (January 23, 2015), President Rahmon paid a special attention to problems of development of Tajikistan’s economy under conditions of global economic and financial crisis, as well as the fight against international terrorism and extremism.

“In the upcoming address, the president is expected to pay a special attention to domestic politics and foreign policy and outline priorities of development of the national economy and social sphere for 2017,” the source said.

We will recall that in 2014 and 2015 President Rahmon addressed the parliament in January but not in April as he had done before.

According to some sources, the address was brought forward in connection with the fact that 2014 a financial year has started on January 1 and not April 1 as it was before.
