On Wednesday December 19, a signing ceremony for five new projects was convened at Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe. The grant contracts were signed between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan, Mr. Hajime Kitaoka and the representatives of the recipient organizations. The total grant of Government of Japan for the projects amounts to US$441,814.
The five new projects, funded under the scheme of Japan`s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) are:
– “The Project for Improvement of Medical Equipment of Central Hospital in Jomi District”, signed with Mr. Abdujabbor Bahodurzoda, Chairperson of Jomi District, for the amount of US$91,870;
– “The Project for Construction of a Building for School No.60 in Javonon Village, Javonon Jamoat, Faizobod District”, signed with Mr. Mirali Rajabzoda, Chairperson of Faizobod district, for the amount of US$89,282;
– “The Project for Construction of Annex Building for Secondary School No.7 in Dehqonobod Village, Obi Garm Jamoat, Roghun City”, signed with Mr. Bilol Ibrohim, Chairperson of Roghun City, for the amount of US$89,249;
– “The Project for Improvement of Medical Equipment of City Medical Center in Dushanbe City”, signed with Mr. Khurshed Rustamzoda, Director of City Medical Center Named After Karim Ahmadov, for the amount of US$89,222;
– “The Project for Construction of School No.79 in Sarijuy Village, Izzatullo Halimov Jamoat, Nourobod District”, signed with Mr. Hasan Doustzoda, Chairperson of Nourobod District, for the amount of US$82,191.
During the ceremony, Mr. Hajime Kitaoka made a remark that Japan’s GGP projects have been able to contribute to the sustainable development of the Republic of Tajikistan through various projects implemented all across the country and these projects in particular will contribute to creating a better environment for the vulnerable people in the remote areas. Embracing the occasion, the grant recipients expressed their gratitude to the Government and the people of Japan for their support and ensured that all the determined project goals will be achieved.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in addressing development needs in the areas such as education, health, water supply and the environment. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. As of today, GGP has supported 394 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 31.9 million has been provided since 1996.
