In January-May this year, Tajikistan’s imports have exceeded its exports 3.2 times.  

Over the first five months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan has amounted to more than 1.7 billion U.S. dollars, which was 101.7 percent of the January-May 2018 level or 29.2 million U.S. dollars more, according the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

The trade balance over the report period was negative and amounted to 892 million U.S. dollars.

In January-May, exports of goods reportedly have amounted to 410 million U.S. dollars, which was 4.3 percent or 18.2 million U.S. dollars fewer than in the same period last year. 

Over the report period, raw materials have accounted for nearly 44 percent of Tajikistan’s exports.  The share of non-ferrous metals (primary aluminum) in the country’s exports amounted to more than 20.6 percent and the share of textiles (mostly cotton fiber) in Tajikistan’s exports amounted to 19.2 percent.  

Over the same five-month period, imports of goods into the country have amounted to more than 1.3 billion U.S. dollars, which was 3.8 percent or 47.4 million U.S. dollars more than in January-May last year. 

In January-May this year, transport vehicles and equipment reportedly accounted for some 25 percent of the country’s imports.  The share of mineral products amounted to 19 percent and the share of products of chemical industry amounted to 10.2 percent.

Over the first five months of this year, Tajikistan reportedly had trade relations with 100 countries of the world, including ten CIS nations.

CIS member nations have reportedly accounted for 56.2 percent (963.4 million U.S. dollars) of Tajikistan foreign trade turnover in January-May, 2019, and trade balance deficit in Tajikistan’s trade with CIS member nations have amounted to 629.2 million U.S. dollars.

Other foreign countries have reportedly accounted for 43.8 percent (749.6 million U.S. dollars) of Tajikistan’s foreign trade turnover in the first five months of this year, and trade balance deficit has amounted to 262.8 million U.S. dollars. 

Over the same five-month period, the major trading partners of Tajikistan were Russia (the two-way trade between Tajikistan and Russia valued at 415 million US dollars over the report period), Kazakhstan (348 million U.S. dollars), China (244 million U.S. dollars), and Uzbekistan (133 million U.S. dollars).
